エゾモモンガを探せ！

初冬。森の中が白の絨毯に変わる頃に僕らのエゾモモンガ探しが本格化します。雪はすごい。足下の草木が元気な秋までは注意深く探さないと見つからないエゾモモンガ生息の痕跡を簡単に見つけられるようになるのだ。

エゾモモンガの糞は特徴的なので他の野生動物の糞と見分けるのはとても簡単。画像のようなエゾモモンガたちのトイレを見つけたら…周囲の木を観察してみてください。かわいいエゾモモンガがこっちを見てるかも。

冬のガイド問合せが少しずつ届いて嬉しいです。見つけてくれてありがとうございます(笑) こちら北海道はお盆が過ぎて少しずつ夏が穏やかになってきて、夜の窓からは秋の虫の声がちらほら。天気予報によると明日は少し暑くなるかも。夏の終わりに秋の虫の声を聞きながら冬のガイドの問合せの返信をする。まとめると、、、やっぱり四季があるって幸せです。

Early winter. When the forest floor turns into a thick white carpet, our hunt for Siberian flying squirrels kicks into high gear. Snow is amazing—until autumn, when the dense undergrowth hides everything, tracking them takes microscopic precision. But once the snow hits, their sign becomes so much easier to spot.

Flying squirrel droppings are super distinct and easy to tell apart from other wildlife. If you stumble upon a “flying squirrel restroom” like the one in this photo… take a look at the surrounding trees. You might just catch a pair of cute eyes staring right back at you!

I’m so stoked to start getting inquiries for winter guides. Thanks for finding me! Here in Hokkaido, summer has calmed down since Obon, and autumn insects are starting to chirp outside my window at night. Though according to the forecast, it looks like tomorrow might bring one last splash of heat!
